Sometimes, people experience difficulties that transcend their knowledge or strength. There are awful experiences that medication and therapy can help you overcome; however, other situations require Divine intervention. Situations create deep wounds in the soul and threaten to destroy a person’s life. You need to go before God and show your wounds in such cases. You must learn to go before God, admit your helplessness and believe in His unlimited power no matter how shameful.
Matthew 8:2 (ESV) says, “And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, ‘Lord, if you will, you can make me clean. And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, ‘I will; be clean.’ And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.” This scene from the Bible shows a man, a leper, who understood the importance of showing God his wounds. He didn’t want to adapt to being a leper all his life. So, he went to Jesus, asking for cleansing.
Perhaps you’re tired of living in circles and cycles of depression. Maybe you’re tired of that pain from the past. Or you want that trauma completely gone. Such persistent and stubborn cases are Jesus’s specialty. But, you have to show your wounds. You have to pray to God, “Lord, this is where it hurts; I believe You can heal me.” You’ll be surprised by the speedy attention God will give you when you admit your wounds. It’s at that moment, His healing power can flow into those cuts and bruises in your soul.
Consider David’s prayerin Psalm 102:2. He was a man who knew how to show his wounds. “Do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress! Incline your ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call! For my days pass away like smoke, and my bones burn like a furnace. My heart is struck down like grass and has withered; I forget to eat my bread.” (ESV)
In her book, “HEALING YOUR DEPRESSION,” Apostle L’Tanya C. Perry, MDiv. wrote,“you cannot solve a problem that doesn’t even exist. Not paying attention to the negative thoughts of your mind does not mean absolute ignorance about what you’re going through. If you want to master the wind, you don’t run away; you face it and learn to sail through easily. When the military undergoes training, they are not taken to bars and eateries to enjoy themselves; they are taken to the battleground to see what they are about to confront.
Healing begins with acceptance. To experience salvation, we must first accept that we are sinners and that we need help. A constantly covered and not exposed wound will not be healed; open your wounds to receive healing. People use the attitude of positivity to cover up their wounds and suffering. Positive confessions are better and more effective. But healing brings freedom and satisfaction. You could feel better when you tell yourself that you are strong and cannot be defeated, but you will be better if you work on your weaknesses and become strong. Open up to your Helper, and He will show you the way out.”
