Strength is an admirable quality to possess as a person living on this pressure planet in the 21st century. It’s a pressure planet because there’s so much hassle to succeed, stand out, or get with the program. The world is a pretty intense place to live in; Stress seems like it infiltrates everyone.

Because of the unrealistic standards people set for themselves and others, anyone who manages to survive is seen as extraordinarily strong and admired. This means that those who keel over are looking weak. If you add two to two, it will mean that people who get depressed are weak. In other words, strong people don’t get depressed.

Because of the unrealistic standards people set for themselves and others, anyone who manages to survive is seen as extraordinarily strong and admired. This means that those who keel over are looking weak. If you add two to two, it will mean that people who get depressed are weak. In other words, strong people don’t get depressed. However, it doesn’t overcome those who have learned to manage and overcome it. In the words of a mighty king who won every battle he fought, yet at some point, he said,Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?Psalm 43:5 (ESV).

In her book, “HEALING YOUR DEPRESSION,” Apostle L’Tanya C. Perry, MDiv., MDiv. gave a remarkable example of a strong person in the bible who was depressed. She said, “An example from the Old Testament is Prophet Jeremiah. Wait a minute! A prophet? Can you wrap your head around that? I mean, how could a prophet be depressed? But friend, truth is, he’s human and was depressed.

Meanwhile, if you’re wondering why he was despised and derided by his people, he suffered from depression all his life. He earned the title “the weeping prophet” and had a book in the Bible to that effect, Lamentation. The Prophet says in (Jeremiah 20:14 [NIV]), “Cursed be the day I was born! May the day my mother bore me not be blessed!” At this point, he couldn’t help but cry. What could have made a man of God utter such a regretful statement?

Friend, you shouldn’t feel weak when you get depressed. Most people who have mastered the art of defeating depression experienced the blows of being knocked down multiple times before they understood their opponent. Therefore, don’t give up on yourself or feel ashamed because you got knocked down. Sooner, you will learn how to get back on your feet.

Consider the words of King David in (Psalm 43:5 [ESV]) after he expressed his despair. “Hope in God; for I shall again praise Him, my salvation and my God.” David held on to hope as a lifeline in his time of depression. He knew that despite his hopeless situation, hope could be found in God.

Yes, depression comes after the loss of hope, but there’s always hope with God. You’re not depressed because you’re weak. Don’t believe that myth. You only need to find your hope again. Join yourself again to the one true living God and receive the strength to rise again.
