Mindset refers to a set of beliefs that shape how you make sense of the world and yourself. It influences how you think, feel, and behave in any given situation. [1]According to Carol Dweck, a Stanford Psychologist, your mindset determines your level of achievement and success in life.[2] By inference, this statement means that your mindset also determines your failure.
Thomas Edison is famous for inventing the electric light bulb. But he didn’t just get lucky. His invention wasn’t a success the first time he tried, not even the twentieth time. Take a look at what he said when asked about his many failed attempts to make the light bulb: “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Now, here’s a man with a powerful and positive mindset. No doubt, Edison’s mindset is the secret behind his success. He was a tenacious and focused man who refused to take no for an answer. He refused to give in to failure.
Aren’t you tired of quitting? Isn’t it about time you overcame the depression that steals your life? You’re just the right mindset away from a breakthrough. Think about the self-motivation Edison mustered to get himself to try 10,000 times. Only the right mindset wields such power.
In her book, “HEALING YOUR DEPRESSION,” Apostle L’Tanya C. Perry, MDiv. wrote, “Goliath was a dreadful being; all of Israel fled from him because of his size and guts. He was a giant of the Philistines and was capable of frightening all the armies of Israel even with their years of experience. And there was David, the last son of Jesse, who was just a ruddy and dirty shepherd boy. He had never had the battlefield experience; he could not even hold the king’s armor and weaponry. This poor little boy brought down a giant that challenged the entire nation of Israel, and no one could contend with him.”
In the David and Goliath story, we see the power of David’s mindset, and the great victory it won him. On the other hand, we see how much carnage the wrong mindset can inflict. Apostle L’Tanya C. Perry, MDiv. added, “Dreams as big as Goliath can go down by a depressing thought as small as David’s stone. If you want to bring down a great man, first bring down his thinking. Men are products of their thoughts. That is why you must guard your mind, so you don’t accommodate demeaning thoughts. Mahatma Gandhi mentioned that he would not let anyone walk through his mind with their dirty feet. Don’t allow even the devil to walk through your mind with his dirty feet. That’s his job; he destroys people and starts from their power points; the mind.”
