When discussing depression, some people love to approach it as a purely spiritual condition, while others try to prove that it’s entirely psychological. However, it’s not that simple. One cannot just pick sides, either psychological or spiritual. Why? Because they are two sides of the same coin. Just as depression has physical causes, it also has spiritual causes. After all, human beings aren’t only physical beings; we have a spirit too.

However, it’s important to note that one side of the coin isn’t more vital. We must consider both the spiritual and psychological causes and treatments for depression. It’s easy for believers to take a more spiritual approach to issues, even when a more physical solution would suffice. Therefore, we must strike a balance.

In her book, “HEALING YOUR DEPRESSION,” Apostle L’Tanya C. Perry, MDiv. said, “Depression is a medical illness that affects both the mind and the body; it has emotional and spiritual effects. It’s characterized by a continuous sense of sadness and hopelessness and the nagging thought that one would be better off dead. Many people who suffer from this disorder contemplate suicide; they have no sense of hope that things will get better. It’s one reason why we have to guard our hearts, as Solomon advised us. Proverbs 4:23  (ERV), says, ‘Above all, be careful what you think because your thoughts control your life.  It’d be so wrong if we refuse to see the psychological part of depression.”

Friend, it would be best to prioritize your psychological health the same way you care for your spiritual health. Psychological health refers to mental, emotional, behavioral, and social well-being. This means you have to watch how events and experiences affect your mind and how they make you feel. Also, how they influence your actions and your relationships.

Finally, having complete victory over depression and its effects on your life can only be actualized when you know your responsibilities psychologically because you can only be transformed when you ceaselessly renew your minds through prayers and meditating on the Word of God. Let this be your lifestyle from now on. Maintain a healthy and pure mindset, and your realities will be different
